The Knowledge

PostScript Players' first outing was a performance of "The Knowledge," by Mark Edwards.
The play was presented on the 30th of May at the Juliana Goss Theatre at RAF Lyneham, as part of the 2010 RAFTA One-Act Play Festival.
A wryly witty look at the audition procedure for a leading Drama School, the action of the play takes place in the holding area for the auditions, where David, a prospective candidate, is preparing to meet the tutors who will decide his fate.
Cue the arrival of Ian, a crazy looking chap, dressed as a clown, who proceeds to give David all manner of whacky pieces of advice, purporting to know exactly what the audition panel will be looking for.

David is a little confused, but, not wanting to be outwardly rude, plays along, and the action continues, as Ian's suggestions become more and more ridiculous.
Finally it is time for David to meet the auditioner, who turns out to none other than Ian himself!
Should David take his advice, or stick to his guns, and perform the material he had originally brought with him?
He decides on the former option, and delivers what Ian regards as the best audition he has ever seen, and is duly accepted to the college, only to be rejected when it transpires that he has signed his acceptance form with the wrong hand.
The search for the perfect candidate continues...

The production was presented with the most minimal set possible, opening up all the tabs to reveal the back wall of the theatre, and only using the harsh workers for lighting.
All in all, it was a very successful first production, being awarded the Runners Up Trophy for the entire Festival, and with both Philip and Daryl being mentioned as contenders for The Best Actor Award. Not bad!
